Jammers and Lycans had an up-down game which saw the
two teams exchange big leads through the game. Jammers
played without dominant post scorer Glen who was out
with a knee injury. Lycans finally pulled away with
a big gap in the 4th with big plays from #2 Desmond
and #24 Macmillan. Jammers made a comeback to come within
2 pts and seconds away from tying the game. It was not
meant to be as time ran out and Lycans took the 3rd
place over Jammers.
Taman Jurong CSC faced an energized and physical Rock
Dogs team as they met in the championship game. Led
by their guards Nick and Evan, the Rock Dogs again took
a big lead in this one, very much like their start against
Jammers in the conference finals. Dixon outplayed Sashi
in the post and the big men lineup of the Dogs was too
much for the young guns to handle. The result? Frustration
and fouls ending up in the Rock Dogs' favour. Taman
Jurong's leader Vimal took a bad fall in the previous
game against Lycans and was never a huge factor in this
one as he visibly struggled in the game. The young guns
never did get their running game going but played hard
nosed full-court defense to pull within 9 in the 4th.
However, it was not their day as the Rock Dogs continued
to score and eventually pulled away for the win, securing
the championship in the hard fought playoffs.

Two close games, both decided by a shot taken just
before time expired. Taman Jurong advances to the Finals
after Lycans team leader Macmillan took the final three
that rolled in and out. For the Rock Dogs, they were
tied with the Jammers until the final second when Mike
Julian threw up a prayer at the top of the key just
mili-seconds before time expired. The shot bounced off
the front rim, hit the backboard and dropped into the
net, sending the Rock Dogs to the finals to face off
against Taman Jurong CSC.

Alleyoop Conference playoffs first round rivals Lycans
and Winning XI had the 3rd ranked Lycans getting a good
headstart and never looking back. Winning XI put up
a valiant effort to reach within 4 but Steven Tan of
Lycans torched the opponents and got the win for his
team. Meanwhile, Taman Jurong & Braddell Eagles
played a tight game that saw the Eagles taking a strong
lead early. As it looked like Eagles had the win in
the bag, Taman Jurong turned the tables around in the
3rd qtr behind cool-headed Vimal Mogun's long range
shooting that gave the conference leaders their lead.
Finally, they closed out the game with some big shots
from all around and stole the game from the eager Eagles,
whose playoff championship dreams came to an early halt.
SlamJam Conference playoffs first round saw the two
underdogs, 2nd and 4th seeds raise to the occasion and
beating their conference rivals enroute to the conference
finals. Rock Dogs & Jammers will meet in the conference
final round.

The atmosphere of the first ever Jammers
League Finals was electric. The teams arrived in full
battle mode, ready to contest in the game that mattered
most. Their supporters arrived in throes to cheer on
the two teams. Victorious Secret with their 'model'
cheering squad, and Nemesis who had friends and family
by their side.
Both teams got the game started strong;
it was clear that this was not going to be a one-sided
contest. VS took the lead briefly in the 1st quarter
with some strong play from centre Ron Ho (#10) and Bruce
Bowen-ish Darren Joe (#32). However, Nemesis made a
comeback in the 2nd quarter with impressive play by
Bendino Ong (#7). Tan Yu Tian (#9) was a constant factor,
scoring when needed to support his team. The two teams
were separated by 1 single point at half-time.
In the third, both teams continued their
relentless defense and neither gave way. Sheau Kian
(#8) and Yu Tian held things together for Nemesis while
VS had baskets from all their players oncourt in this
quarter. Again, 1pt separated the teams in this quarter
as Nemesis held on tightly to the lead.
The decisive 4th quarter saw a heroic
effort by Yu Tian to put his team ahead but this was
thwarted by the strong inside play of VS and the big
guys dominated. In their frustration, Nemesis fell apart
piece by piece, fouling the VS players one too many
times during the crucial period. This resulted in free
throw after free throw for VS, which the team seized
to get ahead. Out of 25pts scored by VS in this quarter,
close to 50% (12pts) were scored at the line. With seconds
left, Nemesis team captain Jordan Loo (#13) didn't give
up and hit a long three to get within reach of a tie.
A successful steal saw Nemesis come ahead for a chance
to tie the game. It was not meant to be. A bad pass
and turnover by a Nemesis player ended the opportunity
as VS players held on to the ball to secure their very
first playoff championship trophy.

3rd/4th Placing: AirForceONE vs Jammers
(17 Oct 09 / 4pm)
The two teams that were touted to meet in the Finals
fell in the first round to their opponents and met in
the 3rd/4th placing game in the playoffs. AirForceONE
obviously lost a lot of steam after the tough loss to
Nemesis and it was evident in the turnout on that day.
The Jammers came more ready to play, hoping to get one
back from the only team that beat them during the regular
season.
The Js got off to a hot start behind
sharpshooters Jamon (#10) and Tommy (#15), who rained
threes on AF1 right from the onset. A 9-pt lead separated
the two at the end of the opening quarter. AF1 was kept
alive by the valiant efforts of their centre Gad, after
Sheldon was carried off the court with an early ankle
injury in the game.
However, a huge 2nd quarter by the Jammers
(30pts) saw the gap widen and the lead was 25pts by
halftime. A total of 6 three-pointers were hit by Jason
(#5), Bandar (#18), Tommy and Jamon in this quarter
to extend the lead. The trend continued into the third
quarter as the Jammers' lead was increased to 30pts
at the end of the 3rd.
Finally, AF1 picked up their act in
the final quarter and scored 30pts in the final quarter,
but it was too little too late. Defensively, they were
also unable to hold back the Jammers who also scored
24 in this quarter. The Js finally closed the season
on a convincing victory over their friendly foes, AirForceONE.

Game 1: AirForceONE (2) vs Nemesis
(3)
Nemesis got off to a good start behind some good team
play and early offense by their forward Shaoxiong (#4)
who carried them on both ends, scoring and rebounding.
AF1 was suffocated by the excellent defensive play of
Nemesis and got off to a slow start, not finding the
range early. The big men of AF1 were also unable to
make their mark inside and were outplayed by the Nemesis
frontline, despite their size advantage.
AF1 got back into the game after some
red hot shooting by Lionel (#8), and tied up the game
in the 3rd quarter, even moving ahead to take a good
lead. However, Nemesis' determined focus prevailed as
they came biting back, one ball at a time, until they
eventually took back the lead for good. Qibi (#5)tore
the defense apart as he drove in time and again to make
huge clutch baskets for Nemesis, scoring as many pts
(9) as the entire AF1 team in the decisive 4th quarter.
Nemesis took 24pts to secure the trip to the first ever
Jammers League Finals.

Game 2: Jammers (1)vs Victorious
Secret (4)
The Js took to the court with an almost full Victorious
Secret team for the 2nd game of the day. The two teams
were evenly matched for the first half, ending 33-32
in favour of the Js. However, a 3rd quarter explosion
by VS (19-8), led by their forwards, turned the game
in the other direction.
Emotions ran high as the #10 players
of both teams (Ron & Jamon) were ejected in the quarter
after some shoving and words exchanged. With their regular
season top scorer out of the picture, the Js struggled
to find their offensive rhythm. Alvin (#1) hit several
key baskets and free throws for VS. Evenly matched in
the final quarter again, the game ended in favour of
VS winning their first game against the Js and marching
to the Finals to meet Nemesis.
The regular season ended on 3 October
2009, where all the teams completed their exciting 20-game
season that lasted nearly 6 months. The teams finished
with the final rankings above, with Jammers taking the
regular season championship, winning 18 out of 20 games
played. AirForceONE and Nemesis take 2nd and 3rd spot
respectively, with the same number of games won.
The final week of play saw some big
games by O2 and Nemesis, O2 beating 4th-ranked Victorious
Secret by 23pts and Nemesis edging AirForceONE by 3pts
in their playoff preview. The Spartans had another OT
thriller with Team J (whom they also went into OT the
first time they met) and eventually beat their friendly
foes in another exciting game.
The playoff matchups were finalized
with last weekend's games. Victorious Secret got taken
down by Nemesis in an important game and fell to 4th
pole. AirForceONE cemented their 2nd placing with a
big victory over Jumpman, who were the first to end
the season of 20 games.
The playoff berths were confirmed with
the results from 19 Sep 09. Jammers seal their place
as the regular season champions while AirForceONE takes
a win to secure their playoff berth. With the Spartans'
heartbreaking loss, they fall out of the race. - 19
